On Saturday, 13 September 2008, “Change Your Mind Day 2008” – a day of free music, meditation and
yoga – was held at Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church (7304 Jordan Avenue,
Canoga Park 91303). |
| The event began at 9:30 am and ended at 2:00 pm with the traditional Ringing of the 108
Bells. |
|
The program featured local Buddhist lay practice groups and monastics from at least 3 different
Buddhist traditions (Zen, Vipassana and New Kadampa), musicians and yoga instructors. Sessions of meditation, yoga,
readings and music happened throughout the day. And a very special complimentary lunch
was served, focusing on the issues of poverty and hunger in the world.
The event was open to the public, free of charge.
Change Your Mind Day 2008 was a community
service project of the
Smith Small Group Ministry of Emerson UUC.

Begun in 1993, by Tricycle magazine (“The Independent Journal of
American Buddhism”) with continuing support from the Frederick P.
Lenz Foundation for American Buddhism, annual Change Your Mind
Day events are organized and hosted by Buddhist groups, churches and
communities across North America to introduce the public to Buddhist thought and practice, and to bring together the diverse members of today's Buddhist community. Some of these annual gatherings are
quite large – the events in New York and other cities attract several thousand people,
while other events draw together perhaps several hundred people. |
